A collaboration with Frankie that I talked about on Sunday 10th November 2024 at Burgh House in Hampstead, London. It is the most beautiful illustration of my subject “A Female Gaze: Stories of Passion & Perseverance” . Frankie’s series of cyanotypes of her floor length hair printed on silk and silk chiffon was created for her final course project at West Dean college. On the day that we worked together (I, assisting her) she was holding her five month old baby with one arm and with the other, taking out a stool, a board, helping me with the ironing board and a sheet of Perspex, as we set up all that was needed for the printing process outside on the pavement in front of her building. She, with a baby at her breast, directing me as I arranged her hair, taking photos to show her in case any adjustments needed to be made before I placed the Perspex on top and we allowed the Sun to do its work. She sat still and patient with the baby for 45 minutes while passersby included the postman, school children, a jogger, people with shopping – the “still point of a turning world”.

The photo of me holding up the cyanotype was taken by Michael Hill.

The others were taken by me as we worked on the Brighton pavement
